We are delighted to be working with the Metropolitan Police Service, to source an experienced Head of Carbon, Energy & Sustainability, to join them on an initial 12 - month interim basis.

• Location: Sidcup or Hendon (Greater London) / Hybrid
• Job Type: 12 months interim, with chance for extension
• Rate: £750 per day Umbrella

We are seeking a Head of Carbon, Energy & Sustainability to provide strategic leadership across all aspects of energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability management. This pivotal role involves professional oversight, leadership, and direction to develop strategies and governance that respond to national, regional, and organisational priorities. The successful candidate will be the principal contact for strategic issues related to carbon, environment, and sustainability with key external stakeholders.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

• Lead the development and implementation of the MPS Environment & Sustainability Strategy.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop collaborative strategic relationships and deliver systematic programmes of energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability management activities.
• Represent the MPS at key policy meetings and act as Secretariat to the quarterly Environment & Sustainability Board.
• Manage a team of specialists in environment and sustainability, energy, and carbon management.
• Oversee the organisation’s utilities programme and associated budget exceeding £20 million.
• Develop and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned to ISO 14001 and Energy Management System (EnMS) aligned to ISO 50001.
• Provide strategic input to significant procurements with potential sustainability impacts and manage the technical details of the annual GLA Carbon Budget reporting.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• An academic degree and professional qualification relevant to energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability management, or equivalent experience.
• A good understanding of utilities and energy - including utilities usage reports
• Extensive knowledge of the international and UK national agenda for sustainable development, including relevant policies and legislation.
• Proven experience in strategic and policy environments, representing the organisation as a subject matter expert.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing a medium to large team in environment and sustainability.
• Demonstrable track record in delivering energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability programme management.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, negotiate, and influence senior managers and stakeholders.
• Advanced IT skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
